Therefore, the three-camera module remains mainstream this year and is expected to account for more than 40% of total deliveries. Only some smartphone models will adopt a four-camera design to differentiate their specifications, while the number of dual-camera products or less will decline, with entry-level models being the primary candidates.

By combining a high-pixel main camera and two low-pixel cameras, the mobile phone can retain the design of three cameras, taking into account hardware costs. TrendForce believes that this is also the primary reason for the development of lower and middle class products towards three-camera or even four-camera design, in addition to the increased adoption of low-pixel function cameras, including 2-megapixel depth cameras. and macro cameras.

The growth dynamics of mobile phone camera module supply in 2022 will come primarily from the additional number of low-pixel cameras required by the three-camera design. TrendForce suggests that mobile phone brands are currently restricting competition in mobile phone camera module hardware specifications, but remain focused on photo and video performance as promotional features of their mobile phones and will focus on dynamic photography, night photography and other scenarios to emphasize product benefits. This can be achieved not only by enhancing the optical performance of the camera module itself, but also through algorithms and software, increasing the enthusiasm of mobile phone brands to invest in self-developed chips.

In addition to Apple and Samsung, which have long used their own SoCs, other mobile phone brands have also tried to launch chips they have developed to increase image processing performance, such as Surging C1 from Xiaomi and MariSilicon X from OPPO and V1 + from VIVO.
